Garden & Sensory Room

Residents can enjoy the summer months spent outside with fellow residents and their loved ones, participate in exercise classes, and take in the natural beauty that surrounds the garden. Our lovely grounds include an expansive pond and water feature, and is a great space for anyone who likes to get some fresh air, read a book in the sun, or sit and admire the wildlife that visits us.

Our Sensory Room is a room in our home designed to enlighten the senses of those who may be living with conditions such as Dementia, Cerebral Palsy, Sensory Impairment, Visual Impairment or Hearing Impairment. The room consists of multicoloured lights in a dark room, special sounds and soft play objects. It can help to develop communication skills, improve focus and provide a calming effect on individuals.

A Secure & Private Outside Space

Our private outdoor area provides the ideal setting for our residents to appreciate nature while providing the opportunity to partake in gardening activities such as potting new plants and tending to those that are already in bloom. This is a great way to socialise, meet new people, and develop a sense of independence and responsibility. Residents are entitled to dine outside when the weather permits for lunch, dinner or afternoon tea, or join in on exercise classes and activities while reaping the benefits of fresh air and vitamin D.

The Benefits of a Sensory Room

Our Sensory Room was created to benefit a majority of residents with differing illnesses or conditions. Those with sensory impairments, cerebral palsy or dementia will greatly benefit from using this room. The soft objects, multicoloured lighting and sounds played can help to develop communication skills, improve focus and provide a calming effect on individuals. It can also help those who are unable to socialise in a normal environment to produce emotions or connections with others that they wouldn’t usually do.

Garden & Sensory Room FAQs

Providing our residents with access to a garden gives them the opportunity to foster a connection with the outdoors, allowing them to partake in outdoor activities and enjoy the natural surroundings. This promotes mental and physical wellbeing, including stress and anxiety alleviation, elevated mood, enhanced cognitive function, improved cardiovascular health, and strengthened balance and muscle tone.

Our sensory room offers a variety of stimuli that support our residents with a range of physical and mental benefits including developing core skills, controlling emotions and feelings, improving mood, and more.

The garden offers a range of outdoor activities for our residents, including exercising, gardening, reading, and, weather permitting, the chance to dine with loved ones, participate in events, take part in outdoor arts and crafts, and enjoy live entertainment.
