Hazelwood Celebrates 80 Years Since VE Day With Sunny Garden BBQ

Hazelwood recently came alive with vibrant decorations, nostalgic music, and delicious food as we celebrated the 80th anniversary of VE Day. This significant milestone marked eight decades since Victory in Europe Day - a moment in 1945 that ended years of war and hardship, and ushered in a new era of hope and peace.

Our VE Day garden BBQ was a touching tribute to the generation that lived through those momentous times. For many of our residents, this event brought back powerful memories of community spirit, school street parties, and a long-awaited sense of freedom. The day was not only about looking back but also about celebrating the strength, resilience, and unity of our residents and their families.

We were thrilled to welcome relatives and friends to join us for the occasion. The garden was dressed in Union Jack flags and bunting, creating a cheerful and patriotic atmosphere. Residents enjoyed a delicious BBQ prepared by our kitchen team, along with refreshing drinks served from our open bar - both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options available to suit everyone’s taste.

Adding to the lively mood, our entertainer Till performed a range of classic songs, which had everyone smiling, singing along, and even dancing! Our activities team truly went the extra mile, dressing up in outfits inspired by the 1940s - they looked fantastic and added to the spirit of the day.

The sunny weather was the icing on the cake, allowing everyone to relax and enjoy the fresh air. Most importantly, the event gave residents a meaningful opportunity to reflect, share memories, and enjoy the company of loved ones - all key ingredients for wellbeing.

We’re proud to mark these important historical occasions with warmth, respect and plenty of cheer. Events like these not only celebrate the past but also bring people together in the present, creating moments of joy and connection that truly matter.
